Queensland Residents Brave Flames to Assist in Tragic House Fire
Two neighbors were praised for their bravery after attempting to rescue someone from a burning house in north Queensland. Sadly, despite their efforts, the body of a person, believed to be a man, was found in the debris of the Townsville home.
The two neighbors, both men in their 40s, sustained injuries while trying to carry out the rescue late on Tuesday night, March 19, according to the police. Detective Inspector Chris Caswell described their actions as courageous.
Unfortunately, he remarked, “It’s a brave effort to go to the aid of someone else. Unfortunately it just wasn’t able to be done in this instance.” Police clarified that the deceased person was not a resident of the house.
Both neighbors were taken to the hospital, with one sustaining burns to his head and hand, and the other having a cut arm. A third individual, believed to be a firefighter, was also treated for smoke inhalation.
Emergency services were alerted to the blaze at the Hermit Park house after 11pm on March 19. The body was discovered after the fire was extinguished.
A crime scene has been secured, and an investigation is in progress to determine the cause of the fire, as per the authorities.
