Rail Workers and CN Reach New Agreement to Avert Strike
The union representing some 3,000 railworkers announced a new deal with Canadian National Railway Co.
Unifor stated that the new collective agreement is valid for four years, but did not disclose the number of members who voted in favor of the contract.
Previously, workers had voted to go on strike as early as New Year’s Day to demand improved job security, compensation, and working conditions.
The latest release highlights that the new contract offers enhanced pay, benefits, and job protections for employees including mechanics, crane operators, electricians, and customer support staff.
Neither Unifor nor CN have responded immediately to a request for comment.
