RCMP in Saskatchewan Investigating Discovery of Explosive Devices in Rural Mailboxes

Authorities in Saskatchewan are currently looking into a series of suspicious incidents involving devices found in mailboxes across communities near Saskatoon.

Police have reported that multiple mailboxes were broken into on July 7 near Sunset Estates in the Rural Municipality of Blucher, leading to the discovery of suspicious objects inside.

Subsequent investigation revealed that one of the mailboxes had been damaged by an explosive device.

Another similar incident was reported on July 8 when a device was found in a mailbox in the Rural Municipality of Cormon Park, located west of Blucher.

A spokesperson for the RCMP stated that the devices were actually “modified fireworks.”

Police confirmed that seven devices were placed in mailboxes, with six of them being detonated and causing damage to the mailboxes.

Police also found two additional damaged mailboxes, all of which were located east of Saskatoon between Highway 16 and Highway 5 in Blucher and Corman Park.

No injuries have been reported so far.

Authorities reassured the public that the modified fireworks won’t explode unless ignited, and there is no immediate threat. The Explosive Disposal Unit of Saskatchewan RCMP is collaborating with Saskatoon RCMP on the investigation.
