Republican Proposal Aims to Cut Funding for World Economic Forum and Prevent ‘Reset of Our Way of Life’

A new measure introduced by a group of House Republicans seeks to prohibit U.S. funding of the World Economic Forum. The bill, known as the Defund Davos Act, would prevent any U.S. tax dollars from supporting the annual Davos conference, which the Republicans criticize as being elitist and against American interests.

The World Economic Forum’s “reset” agenda, described in a book co-authored by WEF’s founder, seeks to make extensive changes to societies and economies. This includes steering the market in fairer directions, investing in shared goals like equality and sustainability, promoting innovations from the Fourth Industrial Revolution like artificial intelligence, and deploying biometric digital ID cards for tracking vaccination status.

The proposed bill was co-sponsored by several House Republicans, who argue that funding the WEF enables global elites to push measures that harm U.S. interests. Concerns have also been raised about the WEF’s promotion of global solidarity and alternative solutions such as eating insects to solve world hunger. Critics of WEF believe that it aims to undermine national sovereignty by centralizing authority and decision-making while imposing progressive beliefs on traditional-minded populations.

The proposed measure was introduced on the final day of the WEF conference in Davos, which has previously seen clashes between the former U.S. president, Donald Trump, and key figures at the Davos summit. Notable attendees have expressed their concerns about the policies of the former president, involving tariffs, NATO, and climate change. On the contrary, President Trump had openly expressed his skepticism of climate change during his keynote speech at the 2020 WEF meeting.
