The top 10 names for dogs include Coco, Charlie, Poppy, Teddy, Bella, Archie, Lola, Daisy, and Leo, while for cats, the list includes Nala, Milo, Mochi, Teddy, Millie, Charlie, Simba, Lily, and Leo.
This data comes from Australian pet insurer, Petsy, who stated that pet names reflect the strong bond between Aussies and their pets.
Short, playful, and affectionate names are trending in pet nomenclature according to Petsy founder Monica Limanto.
Australians Ongoing Pet Obsession
With more than two-thirds of Aussies owning a pet, pets have become an integral part of Australian households, totaling around 28.7 million pets across 6.9 million homes.
Research from the Pet Industry Association Australia (PIAA) shows that 85 percent of pet owners credit their pets with positively impacting their mental and physical health.
Vet costs and accommodation are among the challenges of pet ownership in Australia, according to PIAA.
Cavoodle is Top Dog
Mixed breed dogs like the cavoodle, a cross between a miniature poodle and a cavalier King Charles spaniel, are among the most popular breeds in Australia.
Research by Pet Insurance Australia reveals that Australians are particularly fond of fluffy dogs with curly fur and teddy-bear-like faces.
The top 10 Australian dog breeds also include the French bulldog, golden retriever, border collie, groodle, miniature dachshund, German shepherd, Labrador, Maltese, and poodle.
Dog ownership has been associated with various health benefits, including increased outdoor activity, lower stress levels, and improved cardiovascular health markers, according to the RSPCA.
However, the RSPCA cautions against obtaining pets solely for health reasons.
