Rogers defends itself against Competition Bureau’s accusations of deceptive marketing practices
Rogers Communications Inc. has responded to the Competition Bureau’s allegations regarding false advertising related to unlimited data plans.
In December, the bureau claimed that Rogers’ advertisements mislead consumers by suggesting that the plans offer unlimited data, when in fact, data service is significantly restricted once a data cap is reached.
They stated that data speeds are reduced by over 99 percent once the cap is reached.
In its response, Rogers stated that the bureau unfairly singles out the company for an advertising approach that other major telecom providers have also used.
Rogers also mentioned that the bureau overlooks the prominent disclosure of key plan features, disregards widespread customer understanding of such plans, and presents a selective and misleading compilation of advertisements.
The bureau has applied to the Competition Tribunal to halt misleading advertising by Rogers, impose a penalty, and provide restitution to Infinite wireless phone plan customers.
