Russia States It Has No Intention of Interfering in US Elections

According to Peskov, Russia has refrained from meddling in U.S. elections, emphasizing the similarities between Americans and Russians and stating that they are not enemies.

Peskov delivered these remarks on March 6 during a lecture at the World Youth Festival in the Sirius Federal Territory near Sochi, Russia.

He stated, “We never interfered in elections in the United States, and we have no intention of doing so this time.”

This assertion by the Kremlin spokesperson contradicts the view of the U.S. intelligence community, which reported in an assessment in October 2023 that Russia had engaged in campaigns to undermine democratic processes in at least 11 elections across nine countries, including the U.S.

The assessment, shared via diplomatic cable with over 100 countries, alleged that Moscow was utilizing spies, social media, and Russian state-run media to erode public confidence in the integrity of democratic elections globally.

Addressing the claims, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov dismissed them as fear-mongering against Russia, implying that they were speculative, gossipy, and driven by Russophobic sentiments.

In his remarks, Peskov criticized America’s domestic and foreign policies and highlighted that Russia will not tolerate any interference in its upcoming presidential elections.

Additionally, Peskov defended Russia’s democracy at the World Youth Festival, asserting that it is top-tier and rejecting any criticism directed at it.

The Russian presidential election is scheduled to take place over three days from March 15–17, with a winner set to be inaugurated in May. President Putin is expected to secure victory amidst limited competition and maintains high approval ratings, especially following the conflict in Ukraine.

As Ukraine vows to reclaim its annexed territories, uncertainties persist over Kyiv’s ability to do so amidst the ongoing conflict.
