Russian Drone Attack in Odesa Claims Three Lives
KYIV, Ukraine—Three individuals lost their lives in an unfortunate incident when a Russian drone struck an apartment block in the southern Ukrainian port city of Odesa overnight, as stated by regional Gov. Oleh Kiper on Saturday.
Authorities also reported that an additional eight people sustained injuries from the drone attack.
According to Ukraine’s Armed Forces, the Odesa region was targeted by eight drones, while countrywide air defenses successfully intercepted and destroyed 14 out of 17 drones launched against Ukraine, as claimed by the Armed Forces.
Kharkiv regional governor Oleh Syniehubov disclosed on Saturday morning that over 20 settlements in the eastern Ukrainian province encountered Russian artillery and mortar attacks, with high-rise buildings in the regional capital of Kharkiv also being damaged by a drone strike. Fortunately, there were no casualties, although three individuals experienced an “acute stress reaction.”
The Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that a 53-year-old man lost his life due to Russian artillery shelling in the partly controlled Kherson region on Saturday morning.
Meanwhile, in Russia, a drone crashed into an apartment building in St. Petersburg on Saturday morning, as reported by the Russian state news agency RIA Novosti.
Following the explosion, six individuals received medical assistance, according to the city’s health care committee press service.
Although the Mash news site alleged that the attack was carried out by a Ukrainian drone, this claim could not be verified by The Associated Press.
Video footage released by the site depicted the moment the apartment building was hit, showing a bright flash of light engulfing one side of the building and debris flying into the air, along with car alarms going off.
As of now, Russia’s Defense Ministry has not provided any comments on the incident.
