Russian Man Rescued After 67 Days Adrift in Pacific Ocean Coastlines.
Russian authorities announced on Tuesday that they had rescued a man whose small boat had been adrift for 67 days since August in the waters near the northwestern Pacific. Sadly, his brother and nephew did not survive the ordeal.
Images circulating on social media showed a thin, bearded man wearing a hooded jacket and an orange emergency vest on a catamaran-like sailboat flying a red flag from a small pole.
“On Oct 14, a vessel was discovered in the waters of the Sea of Okhotsk,” the legal authorities in Russia’s Far East reported on Telegram, referring to an area spanning over 610,000 square miles.
“Two people died, and one survived,” added the regional prosecutor’s office responsible for transport issues. “He is currently receiving medical assistance.”
The boat, with the man and the deceased bodies aboard, was finally spotted by fishermen near the village of Ust-Khayruzovo, off the coast of the Kamchatka peninsula, according to the post.
The authorities did not immediately disclose the identities of the individuals on the boat.

The SHOT Telegram channel in Russia stated that the boat was discovered approximately 621 miles off its original destination.
The legal authorities revealed that two men, accompanied by a 15-year-old boy, departed on August 9 from a cape in Khabarovsk Krai, aiming for the town of Okha on Sakhalin island.
“After some time, contact was lost with them, and their whereabouts remained unknown,” they added.
The Baza Telegram channel, affiliated with Russia’s security services, reported that the survivor, a 46-year-old man, was in serious condition when taken to the hospital after losing his 49-year-old brother and the teenage boy during the drifting incident.
A month-long search following the boat’s disappearance proved futile, as stated by the Baza Telegram channel.
