Saskatchewan Police Confiscate 8 Kilograms of Fentanyl in Traffic Stop
Two individuals have been apprehended in Saskatchewan following a highway traffic stop near Swift Current where RCMP and provincial law enforcement discovered eight kilograms (nearly 18 pounds) of fentanyl, equivalent to millions of potential doses.
RCMP and Saskatchewan Highway Patrol officers uncovered the drugs concealed under a spare tire during the stop on Jan. 28, as per a Jan. 30 RCMP news release.
Saskatchewan RCMP Traffic Services Supt. Grant St. Germaine described the find as “significant,” noting that even a few grains of fentanyl can be fatal. “We have averted potentially millions of doses of this perilous drug from entering our communities,” he stated.
The two occupants of the vehicle, who claimed to be en route to Regina, now face drug-related charges, according to law enforcement.
Swati Narula, 26, and Kunwardeep Singh, 28, have both been accused of trafficking a controlled substance and possessing it for the purpose of trafficking.
Premier Scott Moe lauded the drug seizure as a “significant achievement” and commended the efforts of Saskatchewan RCMP and Provincial Protective Service (PPS), including the Highway Patrol.

Swift Current is located approximately two hours north of the U.S. border, and the arrests coincide with U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat to impose tariffs on Canada and Mexico as a response to the influx of illegal drugs and migrants into the U.S.
Trump confirmed on Jan. 31 his intent to impose 25 percent tariffs on Canadian products from Feb. 1 and 10 percent tariffs on Canadian oil and gas starting Feb. 18.
Canada has announced a $1.3 billion expenditure to enhance border security, including the deployment of helicopters, drones, and additional surveillance towers.
Earlier this month, Premier Moe announced plans to reallocate 16 provincial law enforcement officers to border patrols. Additionally, he pledged equipment support for border patrols such as drones, snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles, and three planes for surveillance purposes.
“We are also prepared to mobilize up to 95 officers in total to address any emerging incidents,” he added.
In 2024, authorities in Saskatchewan seized 88 kilograms (194 pounds) of illegal drugs, valued at over $8 million.
Since Jan. 6, Saskatchewan RCMP and provincial law enforcement have been conducting high-visibility patrols near the Saskatchewan-U.S. border, as indicated by the government statement on Jan. 31.
