Shooting Incident Involving Police Officer and Man in Queensland
A police constable and a man sustained gunshot wounds during a violent altercation in Brisbane.
Authorities declared a crime scene in the Brisbane suburb of Annerley following an incident where both a police officer and a man were shot.
The Queensland Police Service reported on the morning of Jan. 10 that officers responded to a disturbance at an address on Tamar St at 9:13 a.m.
Upon arrival, a physical altercation ensued between a police constable and the man, resulting in both individuals being shot.
They were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The incident will be investigated by the Ethical Standards Command, under the oversight of the Crime and Corruption Commission.
Queensland Premier David Crisafulli emphasized the need for respect for the police force in light of this case.
He highlighted the bravery of police officers who confront dangerous situations and expressed a desire for improved systems to protect law enforcement personnel on duty.
If any misconduct is uncovered, the Premier emphasized the importance of sending a strong message to ensure the safety and support of police officers in the line of duty.
