Singh Refuses to Back Conservative Non-Confidence Motion Using His Own Words
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh states that he will not engage in Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre’s tactics by voting to bring down the government in an upcoming non-confidence motion.
The Conservatives are planning to introduce a motion that cites Singh’s previous criticisms of the Liberals and calls on the House of Commons to declare its lack of confidence in the government, in agreement with Singh.
This motion is anticipated to be introduced on Thursday, with the debate and vote scheduled for Monday.
Singh emphasizes that he will not vote for non-confidence and risk triggering an election, especially when he believes Poilievre would jeopardize programs such as dental care and pharmacare that the NDP has advocated for.
The non-confidence vote was set after Speaker Greg Fergus intervened to pause a filibuster on a privilege debate related to a green technology fund.
The Conservatives have stated that they would only end the debate if the NDP agrees to oust the government or if the Liberals disclose unredacted documents that are at the heart of the parliamentary deadlock.
