Sociologist argues that protesting against Israel is an effort to erase white privilege.
According to Frank Furedi, executive director of the MCC Brussels think tank, young people have been disempowered and indoctrinated over the past few decades.
Frank Furedi, executive director of the MCC Brussels think tank, suggests that protesting against Israel is a way for students who have been indoctrinated with identity politics to cleanse themselves of their perceived “white privilege.”
Appearing on NTD’s “British Thought Leaders” programme, the sociologist and author stated that young people in the West have been made “weak and disempowered” and have been systematically educated to dislike their own society.
He explains that as the victim narrative has evolved over the years, being “oppressed” or “victimised” has become a significant aspect of contemporary identity politics, giving individuals a moral authority that others lack.
Furthermore, he argues that the concept of white privilege has emerged, where individuals, especially white people, struggle to shed this identity and often try to align with oppressed groups to overcome it.
Mr. Furedi also discusses how Jewish identity has been viewed as a “spoiled identity” due to the perception of excessive white privilege associated with it.
Moreover, he suggests that those who support LGBT ideologies and the Hamas terrorist group share a common visceral hatred for Western civilization.
For decades, the education system and cultural institutions have been misinforming young people and instilling values contrary to those of their ancestors.
Mr. Furedi claims that instead of promoting independence and self-sufficiency, young people are being disempowered by prioritizing the emotional aspect of education, leading them to become dependent and passive.
Free Speech Devalued
MCC Brussels, which organized the recent National Conservatism conference, faced attempts by local authorities in Brussels to cancel the event in mid-April.
Mr. Furedi emphasizes the importance of free speech, highlighting the challenges faced in securing venues and overcoming legal hurdles to ensure the conference proceeded.
He expresses concerns about the eroding value of free speech, particularly in Western Europe, where it is increasingly restricted based on various conditions and qualifiers.
Mr. Furedi asserts that resisting this trend is possible but requires courage and a rejection of self-censorship.
He calls on conservatives to uphold their own intellectual and moral beliefs rather than reacting to current societal trends.
