Some Canadian Specialists Approve Transgender Breastmilk, but Pediatrician Warns of Risks Due to Insufficient Research
Biological males can take medications that induce them to produce breastmilk, and some Canadian breastfeeding experts endorse the idea of using this milk to nourish babies. However, pediatrician Dr. Michelle Cretella raises significant concerns regarding the safety of this practice.
There is very limited research on this subject. Only four case reports are available in the scientific literature, with only two of them examining the milk composition, though not in sufficient detail, according to Cretella in an interview with The Epoch Times.
The babies consume some of the drugs taken by biological males to facilitate lactation and feminization. Cretella points out that the associated risks are largely unknown.
Dr. Cretella, associated with the American College of Pediatricians, a group that criticizes gender identity policies potentially harmful to children’s health, emphasizes that the primary issue with male chest-feeding is ethical rather than scientific.
