South Africa’s Rugby Union Headquarters Burglarized, World Cup Trophy Secure
According to local media reports on Nov. 14, burglars broke into the South African Rugby Union’s offices on Nov. 13, but the William Webb Ellis trophy that the nation won at the Rugby World Cup in France last month was safe, as confirmed by union officials.
The burglary occurred at the hilltop office complex in Cape Town’s northern suburbs, where the union is located among other tenants, a spokesman told Netwerk24.
While there were limited details on what had been stolen, the spokesman added that the replica trophy that the Springboks brought back from France after winning the final against New Zealand was secure.
