South Korean President Arrested for Declaring Martial Law
President Yoon Suk Yeol was arrested at his residence on Wednesday.
South Korean investigators arrested President Yoon Suk Yeol at his residence on Wednesday over his short-lived martial law declaration last month, after previous failed arrest attempts.
Local media reported that a convoy of vehicles was seen departing the presidential residence early morning on Wednesday, which are believed to be transporting Yoon to the Corruption Investigation Office for questioning.
The Corruption Investigation Office for High-Ranking Officials (CIO), which is investigating an alleged offense of rebellion, said it wants to speak to Yoon about his decision to declare martial law on Dec. 3, 2024. Yoon’s lawyer, Yun Gap-geun, has said that the arrest warrant against the impeached president was invalid.
