Spy Service Officials Present at Foreign Interference Inquiry, Including Current and Former Members

Today, current and former officials of Canada’s spy agency are set to appear at a federal inquiry into foreign interference.

Vanessa Lloyd, the interim Canadian Security Intelligence Service director, and David Vigneault, who recently left the role, are scheduled as witnesses.

Pressure on the Liberal government to establish the commission of inquiry stemmed from leaks of CSIS information regarding alleged foreign interference.

The inquiry’s ongoing hearings focus on federal agencies’ capacity to detect and counteract foreign meddling.

Various institutions’ practices and diaspora communities’ experiences are being scrutinized by the commission.

A final report is expected by the year’s end.
