Stoltenberg: China is the primary backer of Russia in the Ukraine conflict
NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg warned that if you are concerned about Chinese aggression in the South China Sea or Taiwan, then the situation in Ukraine should also be troubling.
Stoltenberg stated that Communist China is Russia’s main ally in the conflict with Ukraine, sharing critical technologies and supporting Russia’s war effort in Europe. He mentioned that China’s support could lead to further aggression in the Indo-Pacific region, including a potential threat to democratic Taiwan.
According to Stoltenberg, China is providing Russia with high-end technologies such as semiconductors and other dual-use items on a large scale. This support includes crucial tech for producing military equipment like missiles, tanks, and aircraft.
Furthermore, Stoltenberg highlighted that authoritarian regimes like North Korea and Iran have also backed Russia’s war efforts, emphasizing the global impact of the conflict in Ukraine.
Stoltenberg stressed the importance of NATO’s role in addressing threats from Russia and China, noting that the alliance’s unity is crucial in deterring aggression and ensuring global security.
He mentioned that the upcoming NATO summit in Washington will mark the organization’s 75th anniversary, highlighting the commitment of its 32 member nations to collective defense through Article Five.
In light of the changing security landscape, with increased defense spending by European NATO members, Stoltenberg emphasized the importance of NATO in maintaining security and stability amid threats from Russia and China.
He underscored the collective strength of NATO and its significance in enhancing the security of both Europe and the United States in the face of evolving global challenges.
