Student Detained for 804 Days Disagrees with Senator’s Characterization of Iran as a Positive Place for Women
Senator Fatima Payman from Western Australia has been accused of spreading propaganda by claiming that Iran is an incredible and democratic place.
An Australian academic who was imprisoned in Iran for 804 days criticized Senator Fatima Payman for her remarks about Iran being a favorable place for women.
During an event in Sydney, Payman dismissed alleged Western myths about Iran and praised the country for its treatment of women.
Kylie Moore-Gilbert, the academic who was detained in Iran, refuted Payman’s claims and emphasized that Iran lacks a democratic process for women.
Moore-Gilbert also pointed out that Payman’s interview with Press TV, known for broadcasting false confessions, contradicted her stance on propaganda.
She questioned Payman’s motives and highlighted the challenges faced by Iranian women, contrasting them with Payman’s upbringing as a refugee from Afghanistan.
Elicia Le Bon, a British Iranian lawyer, echoed Moore-Gilbert’s sentiments and criticized Payman’s characterization of Iran as an incredible place for women.
Le Bon emphasized the oppressive regime in Iran and the lack of democracy, refuting any positive portrayal of the country.
A report by the Center for Human Rights in Iran revealed a worsening situation for women in the country, with escalating cases of honor killings and violence against women.
The death of Mahsa Amini, a Kurdish Iranian woman, sparked protests against Iran’s harsh laws for women, further highlighting the oppressive environment in the country.
Despite these revelations, Payman’s office declined to provide a comment on the matter.
