The drawbacks of the Liberal-NDP free contraception plan: how it harms Canada and women.
Commentary
“Making contraception free nationwide will result in significant cost savings for women,” Singh emphasized at a press conference in Coquitlam, B.C. on Feb. 16. “It will enhance their quality of life and reduce healthcare expenses,” he added, asserting that the NDP is striving to implement this initiative across the country.
However, the notion of “free” contraception is misleading, as it will be financed by taxpayers. The push for free contraception is rooted in the concept of “reproductive health and rights.” Sadly, this phrase has been twisted to endorse practices that suppress fertility and terminate potential life.
This distorted interpretation of “reproductive health and rights” promotes a culture associated with hedonistic behavior and the termination of life deemed inconvenient.
The NDP’s advocacy for free contraception comes at a critical juncture. The decline in Canada’s fertility rate poses a significant threat to its future, with a decline of 64% from the 1950s to the current rate of 1.3 children per woman.
If Canada does not change its trajectory, the population is anticipated to decrease significantly in the coming decades. While immigration offers temporary relief, source countries for immigrants are also grappling with declining populations.
Jagmeet Singh’s belief that offering free contraception will reduce healthcare costs is flawed. Preventing the birth of future taxpayers jeopardizes the sustainability of the healthcare system. Canada requires a robust population to ensure its continued prosperity.
