There Have Been No New Arrests in Two Months Following Montreal Anti-NATO Protest that Became Violent
Two months have passed since a violent November anti-NATO protest in Montreal that made national headlines, and there have been no new arrests by the Montreal police.
Following the incident, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Quebec Premier François Legault expressed their condemnation of the violence outside a convention centre in downtown Montreal, urging the swift arrest of those responsible.
Montreal police Chief Fady Dagher expressed confidence in more arrests in the days and weeks after the protest. He mentioned that the police were familiar with the group responsible for the violence, which he described as a small group of “extreme-left” protesters who vandalized the convention centre on Nov. 22, including setting a car on fire.
In December, the police released blurry images of six masked suspects and sought the public’s help in identifying them. However, the investigation is still ongoing, according to a spokesperson.
During the protest, organized by the group Divest for Palestine and a Montreal anti-capitalist group, three individuals were arrested.
