Think Tank Finds GSCE Results Improve In Schools That Ban Smartphones
Officials have expressed concerns about the impact of mobile phones on students’ mental health and learning abilities.
A think tank has reported that children attending schools with a strict mobile phone ban tend to achieve better GCSE results compared to those in schools with more lenient policies.
The report is based on 800 Freedom of Information requests sent to primary and secondary schools across the UK.
The investigation found that 84 percent of primary schools had an effective ban on smartphones, while only 11 percent of secondary schools implemented such bans. The rest allowed phones to be kept in students’ bags.
Furthermore, 36 percent of schools practiced a partial ban where phones were prohibited in some areas but allowed in others like during breaks.
Despite the proportion of pupils eligible for free school meals, Policy Exchange noted that schools with an effective ban on mobile phones still achieved better GSCE results.
