Top Contenders in the 2025 Election


Various prominent public figures have decided to run for seats in the upcoming snap federal election.

The Liberals have seen a rise in popularity in recent weeks, coinciding with the party’s leadership campaign and Mark Carney’s new leadership role. This surge has attracted several well-known individuals from local politics and the media to join the race as candidates.

The Conservatives also experienced a similar increase after Pierre Poilievre became the party leader in 2022, gaining momentum as former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s popularity declined.

Local Politicians

Gregor Robertson, who previously served as an NDP MLA and mayor of Vancouver, will run for the Liberals in Vancouver Fraserview-South Burnaby. Robertson, known for his environmental initiatives, is aiming to secure a Liberal stronghold left by former cabinet minister Harjit Sajjan.

Amarjeet Sohi, the former mayor of Edmonton, will represent the Liberals in Edmonton Southeast. Sohi, a former Liberal MP and minister, looks to win in a new electoral district that 338Canada.com predicts to lean towards the Liberals.

Sohi previously served as a Liberal MP and minister before losing his seat in the 2019 election. He now aims to make a comeback in Edmonton Southeast, a riding that 338Canada tags as leaning towards the Liberals.

The Conservatives have recruited Billy Morin, former Chief of Enoch Cree Nation, to run in Edmonton Northwest. Morin, known for his emphasis on economic development and community relationships, will represent the Tories in a riding that is considered to lean towards the Conservative party.
