Toronto Police seeking suspect following assault on officer at Pro-Palestinian demonstration
Toronto police are searching for a suspect following an assault on an officer during a Pro-Palestinian demonstration in the city.
According to the release, “During the demonstration, the suspect assaulted an officer then fled the area.”
The suspect is described as a clean-shaven man wearing a grey T-shirt, blue button-up shirt, black zip-up sweater, black jacket, black pants, and white Adidas shoes, estimated to be between 25 and 35 years old.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the police at 416-808-3506 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477).
Additional Arrests Made
At the same demonstration, Toronto police arrested three other individuals, including two women who allegedly became aggressive towards officers.
The women purportedly tried to assault officers after police intervened and charged a man driving a truck with passengers in the truck bed.
The driver faced charges for stunt driving, had their license suspended for 30 days, and their truck impounded for 14 days.
During the truck seizure, demonstrators reacted, with one woman throwing horse manure at officers and another using a flagpole to “spear” an officer.
Assia Rami, 24, was charged with assaulting a peace officer with a weapon for the manure incident and is set to appear in court on May 16.
Celeste Xiaoying Furlotte-Bois, aged 27, was also charged with assaulting a peace officer with a weapon and has a court date scheduled for May 14.
While making an arrest, TPS noted that “several people interfered with the arrest,” resulting in the apprehension of four men for breaching the peace. Three were later released without conditions.
The fourth man was wanted on an unrelated warrant and was handed over to the Ontario Provincial Police.
TPS mentioned that the investigation continues, and individuals may still face charges.
The release stated, “Just because someone is not issued a charge at the time does not mean they cannot be charged at a later date.”
Pro-Palestinian demonstrators have been rallying in Toronto and other Canadian cities, advocating for an end to Israel’s military actions against Hamas in Gaza.
The Israeli operation in Gaza commenced after Hamas attacked Israeli civilians on Oct. 7, 2023.
