Tragedy Strikes as 12 Bodies Discovered at Ski Resort Restaurant in Georgia
TBILISI, Georgia—Police in Georgia have opened a criminal negligence investigation following the tragic discovery of 12 deceased individuals at an Indian restaurant located in the ski resort of Gudauri.
The victims, believed to be employees of the restaurant, were found in dormitories on the second floor of the establishment, as stated by Georgia’s Interior Ministry in a release on Saturday.
Authorities have indicated that there was no evidence of violence at the scene, but a generator was running in a sealed room near the sleeping quarters. While the cause of death has not been confirmed, local reports suggest that the individuals may have succumbed to fumes from the generator. The region was experiencing a power outage, leading the employees to bring in the generator for warmth.
According to media sources, eleven of the victims were Indian nationals, with the twelfth victim being a Georgian citizen. In recent years, there has been a rise in the number of Indian students in Georgia, many of whom engage in employment while pursuing their studies.
