According to the owner of Ottawa-based emBARK Pet Transport, the increase in pet travel is due to many people moving for work or wanting to bring their dogs along on trips because they see them as a part of their family.
The number of dogs entering Canada each year has significantly increased from 2013 to 2019, reaching an estimated 37,400, as reported by the Public Health Agency of Canada.
Despite the growing interest in pet travel, crossing borders with pets can be a challenging process with constantly changing requirements from authorities, Perrault explained.

Most pets require an international health certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian, which must then be approved by a Canadian Food Inspection Agency vet for a $22 fee at federal offices across the country.
