Trial Decision for Convoy Protester Pat King Expected Today
A decision is expected this morning in the criminal case against a prominent figure from the 2022 Freedom Convoy in Ottawa.
Pat King entered a plea of not guilty to charges of mischief, counselling others to commit mischief, obstructing police, and other offenses related to the blockade.
His defense contended that King was peacefully protesting during the three-week demonstration in Ottawa that disrupted downtown streets to oppose COVID-19 public health restrictions.
The Crown, however, alleged that he was a protest leader who played a significant role in the disruption of the city and its residents and workers.
The Crown’s evidence primarily consists of videos posted by King on social media throughout the protest to document the demonstration and communicate with fellow protesters.
Following the conclusion of his trial in July, King could face a sentence of over 10 years if convicted.
