Trudeau and Poilievre Discuss Violent Conflict at Brampton Hindu Temple
“The individuals who are inciting violence, division, and hatred do not represent either the Sikh community or the Hindu community in Canada,” Trudeau stated on Nov. 5. “We will continue to stand for the unity of Canadians,” he added.
Trudeau’s comments followed a violent protest on Nov. 3 where pro-Khalistan protesters clashed with attendees of a Hindu temple in Brampton, Ont. The Sikh separatists were demonstrating against a visit by Indian consular officials to the temple.
Poilievre held Trudeau responsible for the conflict, alleging that the prime minister was fostering “divisions” in the country. He referenced other recent social conflicts in Canada, like violence against Jewish communities and instances of church arson and vandalism.
Trudeau hit back, criticizing Poilievre for not obtaining the required top-level security clearance to comprehend the threats to Canada. Trudeau also called out Poilievre for not issuing a statement on the violence in Brampton.
“Both the pro-India and pro-Khalistan factions that believe protesting at places of worship is acceptable are mistaken. This behavior must cease,” Brown stated on the X platform. “Both sides must de-escalate.”
The tension arose after the Canadian government accused Indian government agents of engaging in criminal activities in Canada in October, including homicides and extortion, with effects on the Sikh community. India has refuted these allegations.
