Trudeau set to take the stand as Foreign Interference Inquiry enters final phase
Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is set to testify as a federal inquiry into foreign interference completes its latest phase of work.
The inquiry is examining the ability of institutions to identify and thwart the efforts of hostile states to interfere in Canadian affairs.
Over the past few weeks, the inquiry has heard from senior bureaucrats, police and intelligence officials, cabinet ministers, and members of diaspora communities.
Trudeau is returning to the inquiry after his appearance in April during the initial phase, focused on allegations of interference in the last two general elections.
His testimony comes shortly after Canada expelled six Indian diplomats, prompting a swift retaliation from India resulting in the expulsion of Canadian diplomats.
The inquiry is planning five days of policy consultation sessions starting next Monday to help shape recommendations, with a final report expected by the year’s end.
