Tsunami Advisory Issued for North of Honduras Following 7.6 Magnitude Earthquake



A tsunami warning has been issued for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, according to the U.S. National Tsunami Warning Center.

On Saturday, a magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck about 70 miles northeast of Honduras, as reported by the U.S. Geological Survey. A tsunami warning was also issued for parts of the Caribbean Sea in response to the earthquake.

The earthquake occurred at 5:23 p.m. local time, with its epicenter located approximately 21 miles deep in the Cayman Trench, also known as the Cayman Trough. This area is considered the deepest part of the Caribbean Sea and marks the boundary between the North American and Caribbean tectonic plates.

A tsunami warning has been issued for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands by the U.S. National Tsunami Warning Center.

No warnings were given for the U.S. Atlantic or Gulf Coast regions.
