Tugendhat Eliminated from Conservative Party Leadership Contest
Cleverly has moved ahead of Jenrick in the Conservative Party leadership race as MPs prepare for another vote on Wednesday, with only two candidates remaining for party members to choose from.
Tom Tugendhat has been eliminated from the race, leaving three candidates now competing.
In the latest round of voting, Tugendhat received 20 votes from his fellow MPs on Tuesday.
James Cleverly has now taken the lead with 39 votes, surpassing Robert Jenrick who is in second place with 31 votes, followed closely by Kemi Badenoch with 30 votes.
Cleverly Leads the Pack
Cleverly expressed satisfaction at advancing to the next round, emphasizing the need to continue promoting a positive Conservative message.
Jenrick, who had been a frontrunner previously, saw a decline in support in the latest voting round.
Jenrick outlined his vision for a renewed Conservative Party that could challenge Labour in the upcoming years, emphasizing the need for infrastructure development and opposing extreme net zero policies.
Badenoch Advocates for a Revamp
Support for Badenoch increased in the recent vote.
Badenoch has called for a comprehensive reboot of the British state, questioning various aspects such as international agreements, human rights laws, and the civil service.
Badenoch warned against the resurgence of socialist ideas and identity politics, emphasizing the need for the Conservative Party to defend and champion beliefs.
