Turkey, a NATO Member, Condemns Israeli Strikes in Southern Lebanon
The Turkish president met with the Iranian counterpart in New York to discuss the rapidly escalating regional crisis.
Ankara has expressed strong condemnation for the recent Israeli airstrikes on Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, which reportedly resulted in hundreds of casualties.
On Sept. 23, Turkey’s foreign ministry stated, “Israel’s attacks on Lebanon represent a dangerous escalation that threatens to destabilize the entire region.”
The ministry also called out countries supporting Israel for enabling Prime Minister Netanyahu to shed blood for political gain.
It urged all relevant institutions, including the U.N. Security Council, to intervene promptly to stop Israel’s assaults on Lebanon.
Israel initiated extensive airstrikes on Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon on Sept. 23, resulting in significant casualties and displacement of residents, according to Lebanon’s health ministry.
The Epoch Times was unable to independently verify the ministry’s casualty figures.
Israel’s military confirmed a strike near Beirut but provided no additional information.
The day’s events were reportedly the deadliest for Lebanon since the 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah.
Israel justified its actions as retaliation for earlier attacks by Hezbollah on Israeli targets.
In a message to the Lebanese people, Netanyahu emphasized that Israel’s conflict was with Hezbollah, not the Lebanese population.
