Two Canadians in Mexico Confirmed Dead by Global Affairs
Global Affairs has confirmed that two Canadians have passed away in Mexico.
The federal department has provided minimal details about the incidents due to “privacy considerations.” Reports from Mexican media indicate that two Canadian tourists were discovered deceased in an apartment on the west coast of the country.
Charlotte MacLeod, a spokesperson for Global Affairs Canada, stated in a communication with The Epoch Times, “Global Affairs Canada is aware of the deaths of two Canadians in Mexico.”
She added, “Consular officials are offering consular assistance and maintaining contact with local authorities to gather further information.” The agency has opted not to disclose more information at this moment.
According to Mexican news sources, a third Canadian, a woman in her 60s, was hospitalized in critical condition.
Local residents of Mazatlán alerted the police after noticing the absence of the Canadian tourists for the past week. Authorities discovered two individuals deceased in their beds in separate rooms, with indications of decomposition but no visible signs of violence.
The cause of death for the Canadians has not been disclosed by authorities yet.
Situated on the mainland’s western coast, Mazatlan is known for its beaches, fishing, and historic structures. It is a city with a population exceeding 380,000, where tourism plays a significant role in the economy.
