UK Foreign Secretary Issues Warning Against Ceasing Arms Exports to Israel, Citing Strengthening Hamas
David Cameron stated that it would not be a wise decision for the United Kingdom to stop its arms exports to Israel amidst the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
Regarding a potential Israeli ground invasion of Rafah, British Foreign Secretary David Cameron emphasized that banning British arms sales to Israel would not be advisable as it could bolster Hamas. In an interview on Sky News’ “Sunday Morning With Trevor Phillips,” Cameron expressed the need for a clear plan to protect civilians before supporting such an offensive. He also urged Hamas to consider a hostage deal proposed by Israel for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
Cameron highlighted the disparity between the United States and the United Kingdom in terms of arms supply to Israel. While the U.S. is a significant supplier, the UK provides less than one percent of Israel’s weapons through a licensing system that can be revoked in case of potential serious human rights violations.
