UN’s ‘Pact for the Future’ endorsed by Canadian Government: An Overview

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is advocating for a new United Nations-led initiative known as the “Pact for the Future” as leaders from around the world come together for the U.N.’s annual assembly.
During a speech at the United Nations in New York on September 22, Trudeau emphasized the significance of the pact, stating that the world is currently at a pivotal moment. He highlighted how climate change, increasing inequality, unprecedented levels of displacement, and the undermining of women’s rights, LGBT+ rights, and indigenous rights are destabilizing the foundations of the global order.
Trudeau urged for a collective effort to address these pressing global challenges and to commit to the “Pact for the Future,” which aims to create a more peaceful world where every individual, regardless of age, has equal opportunities. He emphasized the importance of setting aside differences for the greater good and embracing multilateralism over self-interest.
