US citizens warned of potential security risks in light of Israel-Hezbollah conflict, says US Embassy
Israel confirmed strikes overnight against Hezbollah in Lebanon, claiming it was to prevent a large attack from the terror group. In response, Hezbollah stated that its operation had been completed.
The U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem issued a security alert for Israel after the strikes, warning American citizens to exercise caution. The embassy stated that mortar, rocket fire, and drone intrusions could occur without warning and advised knowing the location of the nearest shelter.
It was mentioned that U.S. government employees and their families might face travel restrictions to certain locations in Israel like the Old City of Jerusalem and the West Bank. Additionally, the embassy could order them to shelter in place as needed.
Israel had already announced flight delays at Ben Gurion Airport due to the situation. Air raid sirens were reported in northern Israel, prompting the Home Front Command to raise alert levels across the region.
Hezbollah’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, announced the completion of the organization’s operation and disputed Israel’s claims of a preemptive strike. Hezbollah’s attack reportedly involved rockets and drones aimed at Israeli targets.
Israel has vowed a strong response to any major attack from Hezbollah, which has close ties to Iran. The U.S. military has been reinforcing its presence in the region to support Israel’s defense against potential threats.
