US Forces Arrest ISIS Suspect Tied to Prison Break, Search for Remaining Escaped Prisoners
The U.S. Central Command reports that Khaled Ahmed al-Dandal aided ISIS suspects who fled from a detention facility in Raqqa, Syria, on Aug. 29.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces, in collaboration with Syrian partner forces on Sept. 1, detained a suspected leader of the ISIS terrorist group believed to have assisted in a recent prison break in Raqqa.
CENTCOM, overseeing U.S. military operations in the Middle East, provided limited details about the operation to apprehend al-Dandal.
The U.S. military command stated that al-Dandal supported several ISIS terrorists, including five foreigners who escaped from the Raqqa Detention Facility in northern Syria on Aug. 29, comprising two Russians, two Afghans, and one Libyan suspected of joining ISIS in Syria.
CENTCOM confirmed that the SDF recaptured Russian escapee Imam Abdulwahed Akhwan and Libyan escapee Muhammad Noh Muhammad while the search continues for Russian escapee Timor Talbrken Abdash and Afghan escapees Shuab Muhammad Al-Abdli and Atal Khaled Zar.
