US Soldier’s Death in Poland Under Investigation by Army and Local Authorities

Lt. Col. Joshua Camara, 45, was serving at the V Corps forward headquarters in Poznan when he passed away.

A U.S. Army Soldier stationed at Camp Kościuszko in Poznan, Poland, died on Sept. 3, as confirmed by the Army to The Epoch Times on Friday, Sept. 6.

The U.S. Army V Corps spokesperson informed The Epoch Times via email that Lt. Col. Joshua Camara, 45, was stationed at the V Corps forward headquarters in Poznan at the time of his passing.

Camara held the position of a public affairs officer for the V Corps since June of this year. He had received accolades such as the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal, among others, according to Col. Ellis Gales Jr., the V Corps director of public affairs.

“Our condolences go out to Lt. Col. Josh Camara’s family, friends, and colleagues during this challenging time,” stated Col. Kevin Jackson, the V Corps chief of staff. “He was a remarkable leader and mentor, and his legacy and contributions will not be forgotten.”

Camara’s professional background can be found on his LinkedIn profile, showcasing his various roles in the U.S. Army over the past two decades, primarily in public affairs.

Reports from local Polish news sources indicated that the death was under investigation as “unintentional manslaughter,” although The Epoch Times could not independently verify these claims.

An English-language news network in Poland reported on Sept. 4 that Camara was discovered deceased inside an apartment after military police carried out an operation near the V Corps Camp Kościuszko in Poznan.

The outlet, TVP World, referenced the local Deputy District Prosecutor for Military Affairs in Poznań, Colonel Bartosz Okoniewski, who stated that initial investigations ruled out foul play and that an autopsy would provide further insights next week. Efforts to contact Mr. Okeniewski’s office were unsuccessful.

The V Corps spokesperson confirmed to The Epoch Times that the incident is under investigation by local law enforcement in Poland and the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division.

The European Union Ministry of Justice directed The Epoch Times to local authorities. Multiple inquiries from The Epoch Times to the Polish Ministry of Justice in Poznan regarding the soldier’s death went unanswered.

The U.S. Army Public Affairs office at the Pentagon did not respond to a request for additional information before publication.

The V Corps serves as the forward-deployed corps in Europe, as outlined on its website. It participates in exercises and training with regional partners, reaffirming the U.S. commitment to NATO and European allies. The V Corps is known as the “Victory” Corps for its contributions during World War I in France.
