Ways to Honor Dad on Father’s Day
Canadians across the country will be celebrating dads on June 16 as Father’s Day presents an opportunity to let dads know how much they are loved.
In 2021, most dads were 33 years old at the birth of their first child, which is 2.9 years older than the average 30 years ago.
The number of fathers over 35 years of age has doubled in the past three decades, StatCan says, with 39.5 percent of fathers being 35 years or older at the birth of their first child. Additionally, 14.1 percent of fathers are over 40 when their first child is born.
The number of fathers aged 20 to 29 dropped from 39.4 percent in 1991, to 22.2 percent in 2021.
Eat Out
Every dad has a favourite place to eat out, so why not take your dad out for a meal and spend some quality time together? If he’s in the mood to try something new, look around for restaurants who are hosting special Father’s Day brunches or dinner options. Alternatively, host a barbecue in honour of your dad and invite family and friends to join you in celebrating your humble hero.
Catch a Meal
Some dads are more into getting out in nature, and if that’s the case with your dad, plan a fishing trip and catch your dinner. In Ontario, fishing on Father’s Day weekend is free, which means you don’t need a fishing licence on June 15 and 16.
Go for a Hike
Get out and enjoy some time together by taking a Father’s Day hike on a local trail. Plan a picnic to enjoy at a scenic stop along the way. It’s a fun and healthy activity that will boost your spirits and allow for some bonding time.
See a Show
From local theatre and concerts to a good movie, take your dad out for a treat centred around entertainment. Buy tickets to see one of his favourite bands, attend a unique performance such as an acrobat show or local circus, or see a summer blockbuster together. Your dad will enjoy the adventure with you.
Attend a Museum
Whether it’s aviation, automobiles, or natural history, many dads like the opportunity to look back in time and see how much things have changed. This Father’s Day indulge your dad’s love of planes, trains, or automobiles, via a museum or exhibition.
Be a Kid Again
Go back in time and get playful by challenging dad to a game of mini-golf, go-kart racing, or laser tag. Check out a local arcade together and see who can get the highest score. If you’re feeling really adventurous, make plans to complete an escape room. This Father’s Day activity is sure to leave you will good memories and lots of laughs.
