WestJet Mechanics Give Strike Notice for Potential Job Action on Friday

WestJet has announced the potential for a strike by its mechanics beginning as early as June 28.

The Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association has issued a strike notice that could result in a work stoppage as soon as 5:30 p.m. (MT) on June 28.

This notice comes after the union had initially called off its plans for a strike last week and returned to the bargaining table.

WestJet is preparing to take action in the upcoming days to address the potential impacts of the work stoppage.

Last week, the airline had to cancel numerous flights prior to the resumption of contract negotiations.

Union members recently voted against a tentative agreement and have expressed opposition to WestJet’s request for arbitration.
