Woolworths Ranks First on List of Most Complained-About Businesses in New Zealand
The NZ Commerce Commission has identified Woolworths as the most complained-about business, with another supermarket following closely in second place.
The data, covering complaints received between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2024, revealed that all three supermarket brands in the country made it to the list of top ten complained-about businesses.
Woolworths received the highest number of complaints at 416 out of a total of 1,817, securing the top spot.
In second place is Pak‘nSave with 219 complaints. The Commission noted that it was challenging to differentiate between the North and South Island operations of Pak’nSave as complaints are made at the store level.
Following closely in third place with 207 complaints is One New Zealand, previously known as Vodafone NZ until early 2023.
New Zealand’s national airline, facing engine maintenance problems, aircraft groundings, and declining profits, claimed fourth place with 199 complaints.
In the telecommunications sector, Spark, formerly Telecom, ranked sixth with 132 complaints, followed by Two Degrees with 124 complaints.
The country’s third supermarket brand, New World, owned by the same cooperatives as Pak’nSave, received 180 complaints.
All Telcos Make the List
Another telco, Spark, faced service outages and disclosed call failures to the emergency number 111 during a system failure in August.
Two Degrees, the third major telco in the country, received 124 complaints.
TradeMe, a local online marketplace akin to eBay and Gumtree, secured the eighth spot with 122 complaints related to the platform itself.
Sky Network Television and New Zealand Post claimed the penultimate and final positions on the list, respectively.
