YouTuber Faces Murder Charges for Killing Bradford Mother

Kulsuma Akter was tragically stabbed to death while shopping in Bradford with her baby on Saturday. The accused of her murder is international student Habibur Masum.

An individual named Habibur Masum, a Bangladeshi student, has been charged with the murder of Kulsuma Akter. Masum had recently started a YouTube channel where he shared videos related to travel, shopping, and cooking. The incident took place while Akter was pushing her baby in a pram.

West Yorkshire Police confirmed that the baby was unharmed and Masum has also been charged with possession of a bladed article. He was apprehended in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, 170 miles away from the crime scene, and later appeared in a Bradford court.

During the court appearance, Masum only provided his name, date of birth, and address. The case is set to be transferred to Bradford Crown Court, with Masum currently in custody. The trial is expected to take place at Leeds Crown Court in the near future.

West Yorkshire Police have taken the step of referring themselves to the Independent Office of Police Conduct due to their prior interactions with Akter. Masum, who arrived in the UK in 2021 for his studies, began his YouTube channel which covered various topics.

Shaun Sigamoney, district crown prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service in Yorkshire and Humberside, expressed condolences to Akter’s family and emphasized the need for a fair trial without any prejudicial information being shared online.
