Zelensky advocates for UK missiles to be aimed at Russia
During a recent meeting, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Sir Keir Starmer and NATO chief Mark Rutte to once again request permission to use Storm Shadow weapons in the conflict with Russia. However, Downing Street has maintained that their position on this issue has not changed.
Zelensky has persistently sought approval to utilize long-range missiles provided by Western countries, such as Storm Shadow, to target Russian military sites. Despite Russia’s warnings of potential consequences, the UK government has not backed Ukraine’s use of these weapons.
Following discussions at No. 10, Zelensky emphasized the importance of a “victory plan” to bring an end to the war. He expressed gratitude for the UK’s ongoing support, including the provision of long-range weapons.
Despite Zelensky’s efforts, Downing Street reaffirmed that the UK’s stance on allowing the use of Storm Shadow weapons remained the same. Rutte emphasized that individual allies had the authority to decide how weapons supplied to Ukraine could be employed.
The potential return of Donald Trump to the White House raised concerns about a possible withdrawal of US support for Ukraine, but Rutte expressed confidence in the US’s commitment to the region’s security. As the conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues, both the UK and other countries have pledged support in various forms to aid Ukraine in the ongoing crisis.
