Zelenskyy Firmly Rejects Making Concessions to Russia as ‘Unacceptable’ and ‘Suicidal’

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has emphasized that it would be “unacceptable” for Kyiv to make concessions to Russia and deemed it “suicidal for Europe.”

His remarks at the European Political Community summit in Budapest on Thursday, follow two days after Donald Trump emerged victorious in the U.S. presidential election.

Trump has pledged to halt the hostilities in Ukraine within “24 hours” and asserted that Kyiv should have made concessions before Russia’s invasion in Feb. 2022.

However, Zelenskyy strongly stated, “There has been much talk about the need to yield to Putin, to back down, to make some concessions. It’s unacceptable for Ukraine and suicidal for all Europe.”

Ceasefire Talk is ‘Dangerous’

The Ukrainian leader cautioned, “Talk of a ceasefire is perilous when there are no clear, real security guarantees for Ukraine that we can trust, not just rhetorical assurances.”

“Such a ceasefire lays the foundation for the continued occupation of Ukraine and the endangerment of our independence and sovereignty,” he added.

Zelenskyy also mentioned, “A simple ceasefire is a model we are hearing about from some leaders here, from Brazil, from China, and notably, we are definitely hearing it from Russia. This is a great model for Russia. A ceasefire and then what? We need to clearly understand what ‘the rest’ entails.”
