DeSantis Suggests Possible Trump Pardon, Pledges Struggle for Weaponization

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis hinted in an interview that if he were elected president, he would pardon former President Donald Trump. DeSantis, who is currently in second place behind Trump in polling for the 2024 GOP presidential primary, expressed concern about an 80-year-old former president going to prison and said he wants to give the country a fresh start. He compared the potential pardon to former President Gerald Ford’s pardon of Richard Nixon, saying it allowed the country to move forward. DeSantis also expressed a desire to work with Congress to give Americans the right to move cases from Washington, D.C., to their home judicial district, where they believe they would have a fairer jury pool. He criticized the “very liberal jury pool” in Washington, D.C., and suggested that these cases are politically charged and unfair. DeSantis pledged to end the weaponization of government and criticized the Department of Justice and the FBI for being biased and harming the cause of freedom. He also raised concerns about aging politicians and the need for a new generation to take over leadership.
