John Eastman, Attorney, Surrenders to Authorities in Georgia Election Subversion Case of 2020

Conservative lawyer John Eastman has turned himself in to authorities in Georgia in relation to charges in a case accusing him of participating in an illegal scheme to overturn Donald Trump’s 2020 election loss. Eastman, who was a close adviser to Trump, is charged alongside Trump and 17 others and is accused of trying to subvert the will of Georgia voters in an attempt to prevent Joe Biden from becoming president. Eastman is specifically accused of writing a memo outlining steps Vice President Mike Pence could take to interfere in the counting of electoral votes on January 6, 2021. Eastman’s legal team argues that the charges are political rather than criminal. He is also facing possible disbarment in California. Trump has denied any wrongdoing and has characterized the case as an effort to hinder his 2024 presidential campaign.
