Rep. Smith Urges Rule Change in Response to Tuberville’s Military Hold
Rep. Adam Smith, D-Wash., is calling for a change in Senate rules as Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s campaign to change Pentagon abortion policy is causing delays in military nominations and promotions.
Tuberville has been blocking military promotions since April to protest a Pentagon policy on abortion care funding. Over 260 nominations have been stalled, with that number potentially reaching 650 by the end of the year.
Smith expressed his desire for a fair democratic vote in the Senate, stating, “He doesn’t believe in the system of government that we’ve set up. You have a vote, you lose, you move on.”
Smith also criticized Tuberville for underminining the ability of the country to defend itself due to disagreements on one policy, emphasizing that Joe Biden won the presidency and Congress should follow his policies.
