The Epoch Times Faces Lawsuit by Sky News Over Fact-Checking

Lawyers representing Sky News have demanded that the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) FactLab compensate for lost revenue resulting from several fact-checks on the channel’s online TV content. The request follows a letter issued by lawyers to FactLab, also demanding the retraction of five fact-checks, four of which were related to the Voice to Parliament referendum. FactLab had its accreditation revoked by Meta (Facebook) in August following allegations of censorship and an expired International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) certification. Sky News lawyers argued that FactLab’s publishing of verdicts without the necessary certification is misleading and demanded that they refrain from doing so. Lawyers representing RMIT responded, stating that any financial loss suffered by Sky News was the responsibility of Meta, as their content is subject to Meta’s terms of use.
