Church of England re-opens probe into clergyman after calling trans priest a man
Reverend Brett Murphy accuses the CofE of silencing dissenting voices that do not agree with extreme LGBT ideology. The investigation has been reopened into Murphy’s comments about a transgender priest. Murphy is facing formal discipline for referring to the CofE’s first transgender archdeacon, Rachel Mann, as a “bloke.” He claims the CofE is deviating from the “historic truth of the Bible.” Murphy is represented by Christian Concern and has had four Clergy Disciplinary Measures (CDM) brought against him, although these were subsequently dismissed. He believes the CDM process is being “abused and weaponised” to silence and intimidate those who do not affirm plans to introduce same-sex marriage to places of worship. In response, Andrea Williams, chief executive of the Christian Legal Centre, criticized the CofE for promoting same-sex blessings and stated that the church will continue to decline if it persists in this course. The Diocese of Leicester declined to comment as the investigation is ongoing.
