Trump: Facebook is the ‘True Enemy of the People’
Former President Donald Trump criticized proposed legislation that could potentially ban TikTok in the U.S.
His remarks were shared in a post on Truth Social, where he also targeted Facebook and its founder, Mark Zuckerberg.
Trump expressed: “If you get rid of TikTok, Facebook and Zuckerschmuck will double their business. I don’t want Facebook, who cheated in the last Election, doing better. They are a true Enemy of the People!”
U.S. lawmakers took action on Wednesday to urge TikTok to cut ties with its Chinese parent company ByteDance or face a potential ban, aiming to prevent social media apps from falling under foreign adversaries’ control, as reported by AFP.
A group of 20 bipartisan lawmakers introduced a bill that would block platforms controlled by ByteDance from U.S. app stores or web hosting services unless they are no longer associated with China.
During his time in office, Trump had pledged in 2020 to prohibit TikTok from operating in the U.S.. He had even issued an executive order for ByteDance to separate from TikTok’s U.S. operations, as per The Hill. However, the order was later halted by a court ruling.
